At BITS, every piece of feedback matters; not just to us, but to the wildlife we’re committed to protecting. That’s why, since 2019, we’ve partnered with the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to turn everyday client feedback into a force for good. For every review left on a support ticket, good or bad, we donate a meal to an orphaned koala joey receiving care at the hospital.

It’s a simple gesture with a meaningful impact. Koala joeys, especially those orphaned by bushfires, road accidents or disease, rely on intensive care and regular feeding to survive. Each donated meal helps these animals recover, grow, and return to the wild one day.

Thanks to our incredible clients, we’ve now provided 1,681 meals (and counting). Your feedback helps us improve our service and directly contributes to wildlife conservation, supporting one of Australia’s most iconic and vulnerable native species.

Small Feedback Big Impact 1

Small Feedback, Big Impact

In IT support, it’s easy to see a ticket as just a task. But at BITS, we see it as an opportunity to listen, grow, and give back.

We respond in two ways each time you leave feedback on a support request. Internally, we reflect on how we can deliver better, faster, more tailored outcomes for your business. Externally, we send a meal to a joey who’s lost their mum, struggling to survive in a rapidly changing environment. That’s our promise: to turn technology support into a tangible impact.

Why Koala Joeys Need Our Help

Why Koala Joeys Need Our Help

Each spring, as temperatures rise, Australia’s native wildlife begins to move. Koalas, especially joeys and adolescents, become more active, searching for food, water, or companionship during mating season. Sadly, this also increases the risk of harm. Young, curious joeys are particularly vulnerable to vehicle collisions, dog attacks, and being orphaned due to habitat destruction or disease.

When these joeys arrive at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, they require round-the-clock care. Depending on their age and health, they are fed milk formula every three to four hours; a critical lifeline as they heal and grow strong enough to one day return to the wild. A single joey’s rehabilitation journey can last months and cost thousands in medical care, food, and specialised attention.

That’s where every donated meal matters. Each supports a much bigger recovery process, giving vulnerable joeys the nutrients they need to survive and thrive.

A Species on the Edge

A Species on the Edge

The need has never been greater.

Urbanisation has had a devastating effect on koala populations in South-East Queensland. Expanding housing estates, busier roads, and shrinking bushland have left these animals with fewer places to live and more dangers to navigate. Since European settlement, South-East Queensland has lost 80% of its koala population. Today, koalas face the dual threats of habitat loss and diseases like chlamydia, which can cause blindness, infertility, and even death if left untreated.

The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital is working tirelessly to reverse this decline. Treating up to 800 sick or injured koalas each year, it has become the busiest koala hospital in the country. Whether mending broken limbs, treating infection, or bottle-feeding orphaned joeys, the hospital’s dedicated wildlife veterinarians and nurses provide world-class care 24/7. What is the cost of treating one koala from admission to release? Estimated to be around $7,500, the cost of treating one koala includes food, medication, surgeries, and skilled nursing care.

It’s a daunting challenge, but progress is possible with community support from individuals, businesses, and clients like ours.

Wildlife Warriors on the Frontline

At the heart of this mission is the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors program, an initiative founded by the Irwin family to protect and preserve native wildlife. The Wildlife Hospital, established in 2004, has become a beacon of hope for koalas and other injured species.

By donating a meal with every feedback submission, BITS is proud to play a small but meaningful role in this effort. Every review our clients leave symbolises shared responsibility between business and nature, people and planet.

A Community Led Effort

A Community-Led Effort

This initiative is deeply rooted in the community, which makes it special. It’s not just BITS donating; it’s every client, every support ticket, every review. Whether you’ve thanked us for a job well done or flagged a way we can improve, your feedback has made a real-world impact.

We often talk about the power of technology to transform business. But this initiative is a reminder that human connection, even through something as simple as a helpdesk form, can help transform lives. Together, we’re not just solving IT problems. We’re helping protect a vulnerable species, one meal at a time.

Let’s Keep Making a Difference

As our client base grows and more feedback flows in, so, too, does our impact. What began as a simple idea has turned into an ongoing contribution to conservation, and we have no plans to stop. To every client who has taken a moment to share feedback: thank you. You’ve helped shape our service and supported the survival of Australia’s koalas during one of the most challenging periods in their history.

We invite you to continue being part of this journey. Every ticket counts, every review counts, and every Joey fed is a small victory for the wild. Let’s keep making a difference, one ticket at a time.
